Located in California's Mother Lode country, Nevada County stretches from the eastern Sacramento Valley, across the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the state of Nevada, covering a total of 612,900 acres. The prospect of gold brought early settlers to the area in droves and where gold was found, communities such as Grass Valley and Nevada City grew by leaps and bounds.
Nevada County is undergoing yet another growth spurt - this time from artists, writers, retirees, small-business people and high-tech entrepreneurs attracted by the County's relaxed lifestyle and history; its picturesque, family-oriented communities; model schools; low crime rate; excellent medical facilities; and year-round recreational and cultural events. In fact, in response to the influx of high-tech companies moving in and scooping up Nevada County real estate, the County has a new nickname: "The Silicon Valley of the Sierras."
In 2005, the county's population neared 99,000, an increase of 7 percent from 2000's population estimates. By the year 2020, Nevada County is projected to be home to more than 126,000 residents. And as the population grows so will the demand for Nevada County real estate.
